Theatre in Brisbane

52 things on · 11 free

Theatre in Brisbane runs the full range, from main-stage productions to small-room and pop-up shows. The Brisbane Powerhouse at New Farm stages the biggest share, QPAC on Grey Street brings the large-house work, and the Princess Theatre adds more, while the fringe end turns up in less likely spots — the Queen Street Mall, the Museum of Brisbane. New Farm leads the map, then South Brisbane around QPAC, the CBD and Woolloongabba. The calendar leans to the weekend: Saturday is clearly the strongest day, built up through a busy Wednesday-to-Friday run, though a fair bit lands midweek too. About a fifth of listings are free, with the rest ticketed and the price on each event.

Both main venues are easy to reach. The Powerhouse is a CityCat ride to the New Farm Park or Sydney Street terminal, with buses down Brunswick Street; QPAC sits opposite South Brisbane station on Grey Street, by the Cultural Centre buses and the South Bank CityCat.
