Film in Brisbane

111 things on · 6 free

Film on our calendar is essentially one programme: the Australian Cinematheque at the Gallery of Modern Art. Nearly nine in ten screenings happen there, in GOMA’s own cinemas on Stanley Place in South Brisbane. This is gallery-cinema fare: retrospectives, themed seasons and restored prints. The rest is scattered: the odd screening at the Brisbane Powerhouse, and open-air films in suburban parks. It’s a weekend habit. Friday, Saturday and Sunday carry most sessions, with a smaller midweek run on Wednesdays. Only a handful of listings are free; most screenings are ticketed, and because many don’t carry a price in our data, check the gallery’s own page for the session you want.

GOMA is easy to reach without a car. It sits beside the Cultural Centre Busway station, a short walk from South Brisbane train station and the South Bank CityCat and ferry terminal. If you drive, the car parks under the Queensland Art Gallery and the State Library are reached from Stanley Place.
