Art in Brisbane

93 things on · 50 free

Art on our calendar is gallery-going: walk-in exhibitions you can see at your own pace, open most days of the week. The Gallery of Modern Art at South Bank runs the biggest share, with the State Library of Queensland next door and the Brisbane Powerhouse across the river in New Farm. In the CBD, the Museum of Brisbane sits on Level 3 of City Hall, and Petrie Terrace Gallery adds a few more. Shows run for weeks at a time, so the days are flat: you can go on a Tuesday as easily as a Saturday. About half of it is free. The Gallery of Modern Art and the Museum of Brisbane charge nothing for entry, while touring and special exhibitions carry a price on each listing. South Brisbane holds most of the calendar, then the city and New Farm. The South Bank galleries sit by the Cultural Centre busway, a short walk from South Bank and South Brisbane stations and the South Bank CityCat terminal; the Museum of Brisbane is a short walk from Central station, with the King George Square busway station under the square.
