About SeeBNE
SeeBNE is an independent guide to what's on in Brisbane. It covers the suburbs of the Brisbane City Council area, and the listings are updated every night.
Where the listings come from
Every listing starts with public information. We collect it from:
- Brisbane City Council's open data on events
- venue websites
- ticketing pages
Organisers can also send us their events. When the same event appears in more than one place, we combine the details into one listing. The full list of sources is on our Sources page.
How the short write-ups are made
Most events have a one- or two-sentence summary of what the event is. Software writes these. It reads the organiser's own description privately, then writes a summary in our own words.
Each summary goes through automatic checks before it is shown:
- no wording copied from the organiser's description
- no prices or dates in the text, because those are shown separately
The software is also told to add nothing the organiser's description doesn't say. If a summary fails the checks, the listing shows only the basic facts. We never show an organiser's description or images, unless they send them to us for that purpose.
Picks and the weekly roundup
Picks and the weekly roundup are chosen against set criteria. We favour events that score on more of these:
- Rare or last chance: a one-off date, a short run or a closing weekend.
- Good value: free, or cheap for what it is.
- Distinctive for the place: the kind of thing a suburb or venue is known for, or something unusual there.
- Easy to say yes to: a set start time, open to the public, and an age rule that suits most people.
The roundup and guides are written under two house names, Jess Kinnear and Callum Fenwick. They are pen names used by SeeBNE, not individual reviewers.
Advertising
No one can pay to be in our picks or the weekly roundup. Sponsored items are always labelled "Sponsored". For advertising enquiries, see the Contact page.
Check before you go
Event details can change after we list them. Please check the organiser's page before you go. If you spot a mistake, let us know and we'll fix it.
