What’s on in Brisbane’s east and bayside

48 things on · 42 free

The east runs down to Moreton Bay, and the water gives it a character the other outer regions don’t have. Wynnum is the hub: its library carries the biggest single program, and the foreshore picks it up outdoors, with sessions at the Wynnum Wading Pool Park and the Broadwater Picnic Ground by the bay. Carindale and Carina add their own library programs inland, with Hamilton’s library and town hall up by the river. The mix is mostly free and mostly daytime — kids’ and family events and community mornings lead, alongside the council’s free fitness classes in parks and a run of workshops, with a little music and the odd film. It’s the quietest of the four for weekends, the listings clustering Monday to Thursday, so it suits a weekday trip to the bay.

Wynnum sits on the Cleveland rail line: Wynnum and Wynnum Central stations are a short walk from the shops, with the foreshore a little further on. Carindale has no train: the bus station inside Westfield Carindale is the interchange, with routes running out from the city.
