State Library of Queensland

58 things on · 45 free

The State Library of Queensland, next to GOMA on Stanley Place in South Brisbane, leans hands-on. Workshops make up the biggest share of what’s on our calendar, followed by programs for kids, art and community events, with guided tours and First Nations programs in the mix too. Most of it is free, more than three-quarters, and the handful of paid workshops start at around $15. Events run right through the week and ease off a little at the weekend, so a weekday visit gives you the most to choose from.

Getting there is simple by public transport. The Cultural Centre Busway station on Melbourne Street is the closest stop, about a 260-metre walk; South Brisbane train station is roughly 500 metres away, and the South Bank CityCat and ferry terminal is a longer walk again. If you drive, the car park sits under the library and is reached from Stanley Place. General entry to the building is free, and there are bike racks outside reception and near the Stanley Place bus stops.
