What’s on in Newstead

Newstead is a small, music-led pocket of the inner north by the river, and most of what’s on here is live music. The Triffid carries the bulk of it: a band room in a converted hangar at 7–9 Stratton Street, with a beer garden alongside. A few one-off events fill in around it at bars and cafes nearby. Gigs tend to land midweek, Thursday most often, which makes for an easy weeknight out. One listing is free; the rest are ticketed. The suburb borders the Valley, so a show here pairs with a night out over that way.

There’s no station in Newstead itself. The nearest train station is Bowen Hills, and buses run along Commercial Road and Breakfast Creek Road. The Triffid sits near the riverside end of the suburb.
