Northside spinners and fibrecrafters
Bracken Ridge Library
Bracken Ridge has the widest spread of the outer-suburb hubs — not one library’s program but four venues and a real mix of things. Bracken Ridge Library on Bracken Street runs most of it: a spinners-and-fibrecrafters group, retro board games, a mahjong group, a family history group, toddler storytime, a scam-awareness webinar. On the same site, Bracken Ridge Hall hosts chair yoga and other fitness classes; Ferguson Park on Barrett Street adds outdoor Pilates; and McPherson Park on Denham Street puts on a community day with live music, food and market stalls. Across the lot you get community, kids’ and art sessions alongside fitness and a little music, with single food and market listings — more kinds of thing than anywhere else in this batch. Most of it is free, the crowd leans seniors and adults, and Tuesday is the busiest day, with Saturday close behind.
There’s no train in Bracken Ridge — Bald Hills is the nearest station — so buses, or a car, are the way in to this far-northern suburb.
